Lockdown Your Mac with Open Firmware Password

Setting up your Mac with a password protected login offers some degree of protection. While it will keep out your average user, anyone with an OS X install disc can still get access to your system. They just have to boot the OS X DVD and use the included utility to reset your account password.

Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update Fixes Firewall Issue

The Leopard 10.5.1 update came out today and it fixes a very important issue with the firewall. Previously, the Leopard firewall didn’t work well with certain third party apps. The end result was a third party app that refused to function properly. I wrote about this in an earlier post.

Leopard Firewall Breaks Applications

If you want to maintain your sanity, do not enable your Leopard firewall and add applications to the firewall’s services and applications list. It has been reported that doing so will alter the application in a way that could prevent some of them from running properly.
