Software Pick: MarsEdit

MarsEdit is my favorite blog editor. I prefer using a local editor due to the awkwardness of the online WordPress editor. I don’t mean to slam WordPress. Compared to the other CMS products I’ve seen, WordPress is a joy to use.
It’s just that in certain scenarios, it makes better sense to use a regular application. Web apps have come a long way but in many instances, they’re slower and more awkward when compared to your traditional application.
If you write a blog entry only occasionally, you might question the usefulness of such an app. I tend to agree in this regard especially when a registration fee is involved. But for anyone who posts to a blog on a regular basis, this app is a must have.
MarsEdit does a great job of streamlining the post creation process. I found image uploads to be very easy and commonly used formating can be accessed from a pull down menu.
You can spend more time thinking about the content and less time worrying about the little things. Bottom line, it’s a great, simple program that I always turn to when it’s time to post something online. I had no problems paying the registration fee.
For those interested, you can download a 30-day trial here. The cost of the app is $29.95. if you already own an earlier version of MarsEdit, you can get an upgrade for $9.95.
