And the 2007 M-1 Grand Prix Winner is…

Every year in Japan they have the M-1 Grand Prix. The best manzai teams in Japan compete for the right to the earn the title of M-1 Grand Prix winner and also pocket the 10 million yen prize money.
This year, the manzai team, Sandwich Man (サンドウィッチマン) came through with the win. In the finals, they were up against Total Tenbosu and manzai veterans King Kong. In the end, their quick and clever pizza delivery man routine won over the celebrity judges.
Congrats to Sandwich Man. Like past M-1 winners, you’ll be seeing them make their rounds on the Japanese variety show circuit. Winning the M-1 further validates a manzai team and most importantly gives them a slew of TV work to choose from.
But that’s not to say the runners up go empty handed. Most of the runners up in the past have gone on to have highly successful TV careers. Just look at King Kong and their successful show Hanetobi.

I gotta check them out. What do you think of them? You think they’re funny?

They were good. Their final M-1 act was traditional in its pace and very well executed.

I just saw a bit of them. I don’t think it was the final I saw though. Possibly somewhere in the middle. It was some survey(アンケート) bit and they were up against Harisenbon. That was a funny bit though. I look forward to seeing more of these guys.
