Play Your Obscure Media Files with VLC

VLC About Screen

VLC from VideoLAN, with a few exceptions, can play most media files. A new version (0.8.6d) was released last week. This version reportedly offers better Leopard compatibility.

I’ve been playing around with 0.8.6d for the past few days and the results are positive overall. It still crashes occasionally, but from past experience, it’s not as bad as it used to be. Earlier versions would regularly crash whenever I tried to move around the progress slider on a video file. So far, 0.8.6d has exhibited no such issues.

VLC is free and you can download it here.

  1. Too bad, the subtitles support still sucks. I prefer using a up-to-date Mplayer OSX.
