Thinking of Future Macbooks

I love my Macbook. The performance is snappy, it doesn’t get hot, the keyboard is excellent, and it’s all encased in a nice form factor. As far as portable Mac solutions go, I have no problems using this over the bulkier and hotter Macbook Pro.
It’s not without its annoyances. The integrated graphics chip is a lousy solution for gaming and other GPU intensive applications. The Macbook could also go on a bit of a diet and the screen’s vertical viewing angles are rather poor. If you’re an owner of a white Macbook, then you probably noticed how the porous surface of the palm rest has a tendency to absorb stains.
Looking forward, it’s my wish for Apple to resurrect the 12-inch Powerbook. Get the form factor of the 12-inch Powerbook, give it a wide aspect ratio display, stuff in a Core 2 Duo CPU, and top it off with a decent graphics chip. I’m not looking for a gaming powerhouse. Something slightly better than a Radeon X1600 would do nicely. Integrating 3G EVDO or HSDPA would be gravy.
I look back at the 12-inch Powerbook with such fondness due to it’s amazing form factor. It had a great keybard, and its handy size made for a device that’s easy to take on the road. I’ve only heard rumors of a successor to the 12-inch but it only makes sense for Apple to release this type of notebook since the there’s currently a hole in Apple’s product lineup for such a device.
I do believe there will be demand for a 12-inch Macbook or Macbook Pro. The 12-inch Powerbook received a cult-following and I’ve heard of used models commanding decent price premiums. People are clamoring to see what Apple does next. Will Apple satisfy this demand soon?
