The iPhone and the Scroll Wheel
One thing the iPhone sorely lacks is the iPod’s scroll wheel. The touch interface works great for songs. But try to the use the touch slider to get to a particular part of an 8 hour audiobook and you’ll get some idea of its limitations. Most of the time, the iPhone’s touch interface will get you in the general neighborhood. Rarely ever will it be spot on.
A scroll wheel makes this task simple and accurate. Apple can truly make the iPhone and iPod Touch the best iPods available if they can integrate some kind of virtual pop-up scroll wheel or even better, a virutal click wheel. Until then, people will just have to blindly touch their way through their media files.
