Review: Logitech VX Nano Mouse

Logitech VX Nano Mouse

Logitech has been my mouse of choice for the past few years. Well designed and constructed, they allow me to focus on the work at hand.

So when Logitech released the VX Nano, I had a strong urge to check it out. This mouse is the successor to the well-reviewed VX Revolution mouse. When comparing the two, the VX Nano is smaller and flatter.

Also, the forward and back buttons have moved the top of the mouse. I prefer to have those buttons on the side so my thumb has something to do.

The biggest selling point of this mouse is the tiny USB receiver. As you can see in the photo, it’s really small. Having a receiver you can just leave attached to your notebook should prove useful to those of us who are always on the go and need to constantly setup and takedown their mobile office.

So how does all work? The mouse itself worked great. It was responsive and precise and had the feel of a wired mouse. The smaller form factor took some time to get used to. After a while, however, I preferred the flatter shape of the VX Nano over my VX Revolution. I did lose the use of the VX Revolution’s zoom slider but I never used it to begin with.

The one thing which prevents me from replacing my VX Revolution is the tiny USB VX Nano receiver. While it’s tiny, it’s not tiny enough. I use a padded notebook sleeve that’s closely designed to the dimensions my Macbook. It gives it a nice, cozy fit. When I tried to insert my Macbook with an attached Nano receiver into this sleeve, it was painful. I was able to fully insert the Macbook, but it was a tight fit, with the notebook sleeve putting a lot of pressure on the receiver.

Over time, I could see this thing putting unwanted stress my Macbook’s USB port. So I won’t be replacing my VX Revolution anytime soon. But for those who have laptop bags with looser dimensions, I give this device a strong recommendation. It does what a good mouse is supposed to do and also makes the user’s life a bit simpler.
