$100 Richer

iPhone Box

When Apple announced the $200 price drop on the iPhone, a lot of people weren’t happy. As the occasional early adopter, I understand the financial perils I sometimes put myself into (that Newton I purchased at Fry’s brings back memories).

But Apple dropping the price by 33% in two months time is an extreme example. When I first heard the news I can only think that either Apple is disappointed by iPhones sales and they want to give them a boost or they already recouped most of their initial cost of investment and can afford to slash prices.

Well, Steve Jobs heard the screams and according to his letter, iPhone owners who are past their two-week return window, will receive a $100 credit that can be used at either the Apple store or website.

I’ve rarely heard of a company going to such trouble. But I guess one extreme move sometimes needs to matched with another. I look forward to seeing how they implement this refund next week. Thanks, Steve!
